Faith Formation: What We Offer

2018-2019 FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION


DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR 2018-2019 FAITH FORMATION IS June 30, 2018. 
IF REGISTERING AFTER June 30, there is no guarantee of space and if there is space available THERE IS A $20 LATE FEE APPLIED TO EACH STUDENT.

Online registration only includes regular faith formation for PK-5 and Middle School (6-8).  Parents/Guardians needing the following programs, will need to contact St. James Religious Education for registration forms at 704-720-0600x732:

1.  SPRED – Special Needs
2.  Step Up in Faith (students in grades 3-11 grade who have not received First Communion and Confirmation); this is a two-year preparation program.
3.  RCIC/Rite of Christian Initiation for Children/Teens: this is for students who have not been baptized (ages 7 to the 11th grade). 


WHAT WE OFFER 



Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, Level 1
Ages 3-5 (must be potty-trained)
This is a Montessori-based and learning style of religious education. 

Class Time Choices
Sundays, 8:00-9:15 a.m.
Wednesdays, 4:15-5:30 p.m.
Wednesdays, 6:15-7:30 p.m.

Children’s Faith Formation 
Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
First Communion Preparation begins in Grade 2 (Year 2), students must have completed Grade 1 (Year 1) to be eligible for Grade 2/First Communion Preparation. 

Class Time Choices
Sundays, 8:00-9:15 a.m.
Wednesdays, 4:15-5:30 p.m.
Wednesdays, 6:15-7:30 p.m.

Middle School Faith Formation
Grades 6, 7, 8
Confirmation Preparation classes begin in 7th grade (Year 1) and continue through 8th grade (Year 2).  If student has not completed 7th grade (Year 1), he/she is not eligible for 8th grade (Year 2).

Sundays, 6:15-8:00 p.m.
Wednesdays, 6:10-7:40 p.m. 


Alternative/Additional Faith Formation Programs


Step Up in Faith (SUIF)
Grades 3-11 
This specialized program is designed to assist students who have not received some of their sacraments:  First Reconciliation/First Communion and for some students who are older than 14, Confirmation.  If student is not baptized, he/she will be required to attend RCIC program. 

The Parent/Guardian along with the Sacramental candidate (student) will need to have an individual interview prior to beginning the SUIF program (class & sacramental fee required). Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings at 6:15 p.m. beginning in September.  This program is a two-year process for sacramental preparation (Year 1 student is placed in regular faith formation class and Year 2 student will have a solid Catholic curriculum along with sacramental preparation before receiving sacrament).     

Rite of Christian Initiation for Children/Teens (RCIC)
This is for students 7 years of age through 11th grade who have not received the sacrament of Baptism.  The classes will begin in September and are on Thursday nights.  Time to be determined based on class sizes.

SPRED (Special Religious Development)
Ages 21 & up

This program is being offered for people 21 & Up who have special needs (i.e. cerebral palsy, Downs Syndrome, Autism, Brain Injuries, etc.).  If needed, sacramental preparation will be included.  There are 12 sessions throughout the Faith Formation year on Sunday mornings.  Separate registration form is required. 


 WHAT DO I NEED TO COMPLETE REGISTRATION?


1.  Complete volunteer information below.  All 2018-2019 Faith Formation families are required to sign up for at least ONE volunteer opportunity. 
2.  Click on the link below.  ONCE VOLUNTEER FORM IS FILLED OUT, YOU WILL BE LEAVING OUR PARISH WEBSITE TO COMPLETE REGISTRATION ON A SECURED SITE.  
     A.  2018-2019 Faith Formation (school calendar year)
     B.  2018 Summer Intensive Program 
3.  If you are new to our parish, you will need to make sure you are registered with our parish to register for Faith Formation.  If your son/daughter was in Faith Formation at another parish, we need a letter from the parish stating his/her active enrollment. 
4.  You will need your checking account/credit card/debit card to make payment; you will have the option to designate payment plan options
5.  If you are in need of financial assistance for tuition, you will need to contact Religious Education office for application, 704-720-0600x732
6.  You will need each child’s baptism date/parish/city/state (and First Communion if applicable).  IT IS STANDARD POLICY OF ANY PARISH TO HAVE COPIES/DOCUMENTS SHOWING SACRAMENTS OF ALL REGISTERED STUDENTS.
      If the sacrament was received at St. James we will still need date.
