CHILDREN’S FAITH FORMATION

Catechist (Lead) - $20 discount per child enrolled
Plan and implement traditional classroom grade-appropriate curriculum (Catechist must be 11th grade through adult who has been confirmed). 

Assistant Catechist - $20 discount per child enrolled
Assist lead Catechists with implementing traditional classroom, helping children with prayers, attendance; teach when lead catechist is absent (assistant must be Confirmed or adult)

Substitute Catechist - $20 discount
This substitute will help Assistant Catechist when lead catechist is out.

Coordinator Office Assistant - $20 discount per child enrolled
This position helps distribute/collect name badges, attendance sheet, record attendance, make copies for catechists and other needed help during Faith Formation time.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) - $20 discount per child enrolled
Level I Catechist – Requires extensive training with a certified CGS catechist (usually a two-week training or full weekend training).  If interested, St. James will pay for your training, but it will require your full commitment.  CGS is a Montessori-based faith formation program that focuses on hands-on learning paced by the student him/herself. 


MIDDLE SCHOOL FAITH FORMATION (Edge (Sunday) & Hydrate (Wednesday))

Core Team  - $20 discount per child enrolled
Meets monthly as a team to plan, organize and facilitate Edge/Hydrate lessons.  

Small Group Leader - $20 discount per child enrolled
Known as Small Group Leaders (SGLs) are truly catechists.  SGLs help take the middle school’s topic session to go deeper into the lesson through discussions, skits, and activities that help the students articulate the teaching and also apply it in their world today.  Most small groups consist of 8 students or less.

Substitute Small Group Leader $20 discount
The substitute SGL helps out the team by helping sub for a small group leader who may be ill or out of town.

Homeschooling Catechist - $20 discount per child enrolled
Homeschooling program is online, but Catechist will need to implement enrichment sessions for young teens who are required to attend 6 sessions throughout the year with parents.  Enrichment sessions are help on Sunday afternoons, 2-3:30 p.m.

Other Middle School Needs for Edge/Sunday Night:
Snack Helpers
– rotating on a schedule (once a month or once every 6 weeks), parents come in during the beginning of Edge nights to help set up snacks/drinks for the students.

Lead Snack Helper – arranges snack helper schedule; inventory snacks and supplies to inform Middle School Coordinators.  Help find a snack sub if needed. 

Traffic Control – Helps coordinate pick-up line on Sundays evenings.  This is extremely important because this helps keep all the students and others safe from moving traffic.


ADULT EDUCATION

Catechist - $20 discount per child enrolled
A catechist who is willing to teach other parents interested in learning more about their faith during one of the scheduled Faith Formation time.  If not available during your child’s faith formation time, you may pick another time you are willing to teach.  You will work with Pastoral Associate to develop a schedule, topic to teach.  Training will be provided along with any resources you need. 

Homeschooling Catechist for Parents - $20 discount per child enrolled
The catechist will work with parents of students who are being homeschooled.  They will meet during the 6 enrichment sessions scheduled throughout the year.     


STEP UP IN FAITH 

Held on Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m. 
This program is designed to help students in grades 3-11 who have not been enrolled in a traditional model of faith formation.  This is designed and strucured to help catch students up in their formation along with prepare them sacramentally.  It is a two-year program depending on age and their sacramental needs. 

Catechist (Lead) - $20 discount per child enrolled
Helps plan and implemented needed curriculum to help catch up students where they need to be in their faith formation journey along with assisting in sacramental preparation.  

Assistant Catechist - $20 discount per child enrolled 
Helps with various duties throughout evening that supports lead catechist role.  

Adult Catechist - $20 discount per child enrolled 
This adult catechist role helps form parents in the sacraments that their children are preparing for such as baptism, reconciliation, First Communion.  

SPRED: Special Needs Relgious Education Program 
This highly needed program specializes in serving our community of students who are ages 6 to adults who have special needs (grouped by age brackets:  6-10; 11-15, 16-21, 22 & up). 

These sessions are held approximately twice a month on Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. All volunteers must be 21 years of age and older.  

Program Coordinator - $20 discount per child enrolled 
This person helps oversee recruitment and training for catechists, getting lessons and binders made for them along with arranging training and monthly meetings for catechists.  This person makes sure supplies are inventoried and works closely with Pastoral Associate to make arrangements for special liturgy celebrations and sacramental preparation sessions and celebration.  

Leader Catechist - $20 discount per child enrolled 
This person leads the teaching session within the program.  This role is responsible for arranging gatherings of the Activity Leader along with Helper Catechist/Sponsor role for monthly meetings to review lessons.  Communicates to families about any pertinent information they need to know.  

Activity Leader - $20 discount per child enrolled 
This person is responsible for setting up the room environment, selecting activities for the silent activity portion of the program along with keeping Program Coordinator informed of any supply needs as it relates to activities. 

Helper Catechist/Sponsor - $20 discount per child enrolled 
This is a very important catechetical role to fulfill.  This is one-on-one formation.  This role helps guide students throughout the sessions from activity, lesson, sharing and agape meal.
