Religious Education General Information

2018-2019 changes as mailed to all St. James Parish Families:
January 31, 2018

Dear St. James Families,

The Religious Education staff is busy preparing for 2018-2019 Faith Formation year.  We wanted to provide you with some changes and additions to our Faith Formation program for the coming year, so you are aware and can plan accordingly.

1.  2018-2019 Registrations
Our online 2018-2019 registrations will begin Thursday, March 1, 2018.  This will be for all rising PK-8 grade students.  With the new enrollment registration date, this will change the deadline to register by to June 30, 2018.  This registration change allows us to plan and budget more efficiently along with recruit and train catechists to meet our parish catechetical needs.

2.  Introducing Summer Intensive Program
This registration change also allows us to introduce a new model of Faith Formation to St. James:  a Summer Intensive format.  This intensive format provides a distinctive learning experience with full engagement of learning within an accelerated period.   Besides the advantage of this learning model, it also allows for scheduling options for families who have heavy demands throughout the school year.  There are firm guidelines and attendance to follow.  The scheduled weeks (both weeks required) will be July 23-27 and July 30 – Aug. 3, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Each grade level (rising 1st-8th grade) will be learning 3 lessons each day, daily Mass and other faith-related focuses.

By introducing this new Faith Formation model, we will have limited space and limited size classes.  This allows us to evaluate the first year’s effectiveness and plan accordingly for years to come.

3. Sunday Mass Schedule Change
Beginning Sunday, July 1, 2018 (the weekend of June 30/July 1, 2018), our Sunday Mass Schedule will change.  To align the Faith Formation schedule to the new Mass time will allow for the consistency our Faith Formation families have grown  accustomed to:  attending Faith Formation followed by Sunday’s Children’s Mass.  The new Sunday morning Faith Formation time will be 8:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. for 2018-2019.  The new Sunday Mass schedule will be:  8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m. (Children’s Mass), 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m. (Spanish) and 5:00 p.m. (Teen Mass, September—May).

4.  Parent Information Meetings
We will be hosting three Parent Information Meetings to expand on each of the changes and the Summer Intensive program details and requirements.   We will address cost, program format, curriculum and additional requirements.  Please plan to attend one of the following dates:
Thursday, February 15, 7:00-8:00 p.m., Geiger Hall – Large classroom
Saturday, February 17, 9:30-10:30 a.m., Our Lady of Guadalupe – Classroom 1
Monday, February 19, 7:00-8:00 p.m., Geiger Hall – Main Hall

As always, we thank you for sharing your children with us and being a strong support system to our Faith Formation program here at St. James.

General Faith Formation Information
Welcome to St. James the Greater Catholic Church’s page regarding our parish’s page Faith Formation information. Here at St. James, our objective is to give every opportunity for those who encounter our religious education department to form one’s faith:  by being informed, formed and transformed.  It will be everyone’s (clergy, religious education staff, catechists, parents and students) to know, proclaim, witness and share to foster a deeper relationship with Christ and fulfill his mission and our baptismal call to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).

What do we offer?
Because faith formation is lifelong, our formation process not only begins with one’s baptism through the building up of the domestic church, but in formation classes within the parish setting to help prepare those in their sacraments along with the discipline of lifelong formation through the various grades. Here at St. James we offer Faith Formation in Adult Education, Children’s Faith Formation (PK-5), Middle School, High School Youth Ministry, Young Adult, Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC), Step Up in Faith (sacraments for non-traditional students), and SPRED (Special Needs) along with traditional Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.
