Parish - General Information

Parish mission Statement:

Our mission is to open “the door of faith” to our parishioners to make possible the life of communion with God and the transformation of the heart.  The fruit of this transformation will be to unite in charity our diverse congregation and surrounding community; “breaking down the dividing wall” (Ephesians 2:14). As members of the one body of Christ, we accept our responsibilities as good stewards of His great gifts.

New Parishioners:
Please call the office as soon as possible. By Church Law, only registered parishioners can receive the Sacrament of Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, and be Sacramental Sponsors. If you are moving into the parish, out of the parish or even within the parish, please notify the church office so that we can correct our records. Stop by the office during office hours or the vestibule of the Church after Mass to pick up a registration form. Forms can also be found here. After filling it out, return it to the office and pick up a welcome bag full of church related items and literature. Cannot make it to the office? Drop the registration form in the offertory basket at Mass instead.

Letters of Eligibility:
Letters of Eligibility to act as Godparents or Sponsors can be issued only to active members of the parish who are registered and in good standing. Click here for a sponsorship form.

Mass Intentions:
On July 1, 2012 changes were implemented to our policies on requesting Masses. This was necessary due to the increase in requests.  We now are limiting weekend and Novena Mass requests to one request per quarter (Jan, Feb, March, etc).  We have issues with people not being able to reserve a Mass date at an appropriate time when an unexpected death/serious illness occurs.  We are hoping to avoid this situation with this new policy.   If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Funerals:
  • Call the church office to discuss details. Ask about having the Women's Guild handle the funeral luncheon arrangements.
  • Cemetery plots are available to all parishioners of St. James and St. Joseph, their families and practicing Catholics from other parishes.  Columbariums have been built in our cemetery.
  • Memorials to the cemetery maintenance fund are encouraged to help keep up the perpetual care. Contact the parish office at 704-720-0600 for further details.

MARY'S VISITORS
If you have a loved one, friend or neighbor that is homebound or in a nursing home and would like to be visited and brought Communion by Mary’s Visitors, please contact the office.  Unless contacted, we cannot visit or call due to privacy laws.
